WhatsApp Business profiles are expected to officially roll out by the end of the year.
WhatsApp has long since been rumored to be working on Business Profiles for its platform though there had been no confirmation from the makers. Looks like the app is finally ready to be updated with the new feature. WhatsApp Business Profile was recently spotted in the app database and gives an idea of what all the feature will entail. The feature is expected to expand the app even as a business offering, letting users communicate with buyers and brands on the platform.
First spotted by Droidmen, the feature shows a division of Business Profiles into two tables. The two tables consist of ‘WA_BIZ_PROFILES’ and ‘WA_BIZ_PROFILES_BUSINESS’. Under the first table are nestled details of the business like the name, email address, profile details, description, and others. The second table comes with information like link to the website, website details, and more. While the first is expected to give an idea of what the business is to the users, the second helps the business represent itself.
As per the report, WhatApp will not use the business platform to add advertisements to the app, but will rather use it to allow the users to communicate directly with brands. While many brands use WhatsApp as a platform to stay in touch with users through Groups, this will help smaller brands establish an identity as well. Facebook and Facebook Messenger already help brands stay connected with users and WhatsApp is expected to emulate the feature. How will WhatsApp differentiate the feature from the already existing one on Facebook is currently unknown. ALSO READ: WhatsApp beta for Android reveal traces of UPI-based payments integration
WhatsApp is also expected to integrate a payment platform into the system. The payment platform coupled with Business will help the app to leverage itself as a complete business offering. Sellers will be able to do transactions from within the app itself instead of resorting to third party payment methods as used currently. Brands can also set up customer service for buyers or followers through the system. The entire system as to how will the brands and buyers connect is still unclear but WhatsApp is clearly expanding from being a basic messenger app to a more complete solution. Amazon was recently in news for creating its own messaging app, Anytime which works in a similar manner to WhatsApp Business Profiles. The app will reportedly let users stay connected directly with Amazon sellers and track shipments as well as get queries answered. The feature will also let users communicate with the seller in case of any issues with the final purchase. However, there has been no word on the app since the initial rumors. The app is expected to arrive later this year, just like WhatsApp Business Profiles. More details regarding the upcoming feature will leak as launch date nears, giving an idea of the exact changes Business Profiles will bring to WhatsApp.
